Iran Parliament Approves Hormuz Security Bill Article

Iran’s Parliament National Security Committee has approved Article 3 of the draft “Strategic Measure to Ensure the Security of the Strait of Hormuz,” introducing fees for vessels from countries authorized to transit the strategic waterway.

Under the provision, the fees would cover services provided during passage, including environmental services, fuel bunkering, insurance and safety measures.

The article is part of draft legislation seeking to establish a strategic framework for securing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy trade.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has intensified his claims over the strategic waterway, referring to it as “American territory” in West Asia despite Iran’s role in managing maritime traffic through the strait.

Earlier this week, Mohammad Mokhber, adviser to Iran’s Leader, announced that Trump’s remarks were detached from reality, stressing that Tehran considers the Strait of Hormuz to have always been and to remain under Iranian sovereignty.

“The Strait of Hormuz was Iranian and will remain Iranian,” he said.

Similarly, Iranian Parliament Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad said Iran and its armed forces would continue managing the waterway, while acknowledging Oman’s rights to the extent established under applicable arrangements.

“The Strait of Hormuz will continue to be managed by Iran and the Iranian Armed Forces,” Nikzad stressed.
